This abstract sculpture is carved from a variety of marble from Carrara, Italy called cipollino. The English translation of the word is onion and refers to the yellow white background colour with swirling layers of green and grey that remind one of the vegetable. It is mounted on an egg shaped black granite base.
The composition features several crisp edges that curve in a serpentine manner, reflecting the striations of the marble. These create interesting shadows and are in contrast to the soft concave and convex surfaces of the sculpture. The shape of the sculpture looks like a numeral six or nine, lying sideways and gives the abstract its title, though the profile of the piece is reminiscent of a reclining female torso balanced on one hip.
Binkley has left the surfaces of the sculpture with a matte finish, which allows the stone to absorb light and successfully hold shadows and this is in contrast to the highly polished base.
