This simple abstract male torso sculpture is carved from absolute black granite from India. The surface of the sculpture is a smooth, matte finish which allows one to appreciate the deep, midnight black colour of the stone, but also allows shadows to be successfully held by the artwork.

Echoing the ancient Greek Cycladic art period, the simple elegant lines and surfaces of this figure reveal a contrapposto stance, with the opposing shift of the hips and shoulders. I have stylized the details of shoulders, chest, groin and buttocks to minimal, yet recognizable forms.

The jet black material and simple, masculine composition inspired the title.
