This abstract sculpture reminds one of a female torso, with flaring hips, narrow waist and broad shoulders that seem like angel wings. This gives the sculpture its title, after the Greek Hellenistic sculpture, “Nike of Somothrace” in the Louvre Museum, Paris, France. The lower portion of the sculpture is also reminiscent of a Greek amphora jar.

Binkley has carved the sculpture from red travertine, quarried in Turkey, with a smooth matte finish. This is in contrast to the high polished black granite base, to which the artwork is fastened with a hidden steel pin. All of the curvilinear edges and surfaces flow into each other and carry the viewer’s eye all around the sculpture – a trademark of Binkley’s style.
