Another Binkley Out to Sea
My abstract sculpture, “Angel” carved from Carrara white marble has found a home on the newest vessel of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The Regent Seven Seas Explorer was christened on July 13, 2016 in Monaco by her highness, Charlene, Princess of Monaco. “Angel” is situated in an alcove at the base of one of the stairwells (above left).
The Seven Seas Explorer was built in Trieste, Italy by Fincantieri. I sold “Angel” through Saatchi Fine Art to Regent and it was shipped to Venice, Italy to be installed aboard ship. Initially, Saatchi informed me that the sculpture was bound for a luxury yacht, but I learned this morning just how luxurious that yacht was!
I have a history with the Seven Seas ships. In 2002, they were owned by Radisson Hotels and I am the first stone sculptor in history to have had a solo exhibition aboard a cruise ship. That was aboard the Seven Seas Navigator on a cruise from Vancouver, BC, Canada to Alaska and back.
I am proud that I have another sculpture bobbing around out there on the ocean. My commission for Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 of giant seashells is the other one. Ahoy!
