Binkley Commissioned to Create FANS 2016 Awards

I have been commissioned to create the FANS 2016 recognition awards and they are pictured above.

FANS is the Fund for the Arts on the North Shore of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Each year, the annual awards gala “recognizes and honours distinguished North Shore artists, provides funding support to local artists, and fund raises to sustain FANS and its continuing support for the creative community.”

This year, the event will be held at the Griffin Art Projects gallery at 1174 Welch Street, North Vancouver, BC, Canada. Tickets are $30.00 CDN and available through the FANS website.

For 2016, writer/ animator Lynn Johnston and dancer Jennifer Mascall will be recognized for their outstanding cultural and creative achievements. The awards are abstract bird forms that were carved from a single piece of rainforest marble that I cut in half. There is a vein of brucite which runs through each piece and I managed to orientate this to accent the wing lines of each bird. They are mounted on black granite bases and secured with a hidden steel pin, yet they can be removed to sit alone.
