Binkley Orca on ArtBomb on Friday
ArtBomb has requested another one of my pieces for their daily fine art auction and on Friday, May 27, 2016, you will have the opportunity to bid on my small leaping orca sculpture, pictured above.
I’ve carved the killer whale from a piece of allegra marble which is quarried in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Orcas are black with white markings, and it is very difficult to match a piece of stone to the colour patterns of a real killer whale. This marble has multi-hued greens with flecks of white and are reminiscent of the ocean. I’ve polished the sculpture to a high gloss finish to emulate the skin of a real whale and to accentuate the wonderful colours of the marble. I’ve mounted the sculpture on a base of glass that has a napped edge to emulate splashing water.
The sculpture is 9″H x 9″W x 5″D and the whale is free to turn on the pin or can be removed for ease of transport.
The opening bid on Friday morning will be $400.00 CDN, $50 under market value. To make your winning bid, click here!
