Binkley to Teach Introductory Soapstone Workshop in February
I have agreed to teach a soapstone carving workshop through the North Vancouver Community Arts Council (NVCAC) in February 2017.
The workshop is open to adults and youth and will run Tuesday evenings, Feb. 7, 14 & 21 from 7 – 9pm at Maplewood House, North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
You’ll start with a small piece of Brazillian soapstone and using files, rifflers, and emory cloth, I will coach you through the process on your way to your (first?) stone sculpture. Rather than following a template, I encourage your creativity, so each participant might carve something different.
Above are some photos from my soapstone carving workshop aboard the Queen Mary 2 in 2004, wherein adults and youth enjoyed some carving fun.
So don your grubby jeans and try something different to spark up these long winter nights. To register, please go to the NVCAC website.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Hi Michael, Nice work! I am searching the web looking for a Dancing Bear carving/sculpture as a gift to my brother in law. Within a few days he is making his dream expedition to the Geographic North Pole. He will be traveling along with his Husky named Sky. I would like to congratulate him upon completion with a Dancing Bear. I have no idea on size, type of material, pricing etc. Can yuo point me in the right direction? Thanks, Rick
