Binkley teaches at BC Carving School for the Arts 2016
I will be leading a stone carving class this coming week at the BC Carving School for the Arts in Sorrento, BC. I’ve packed my portable studio and have about 1,200 pounds of limestone and Carrara marble blocks for the class participants loaded into my truck for the journey from North Vancouver tomorrow.
This will be my second time at the School and I have six returning participants and four new people. The BC Carving School for the Arts started as a venue only for wood carvers, however there was a demand to learn stone carving. I was the instructor for the third year of stone carving back in 2013. I couldn’t go the following year, as I was invited to represent Canada at the Changsha Sculpture Festival. So now I am returning in 2016.
My class is held outside, under tarps and the weather for most of next week looks damp and cool. But the participants tell me they are all looking forward to the week and making dust!
