Deaccessioning a Binkley Marble Sculpture

Michelle and I deaccessioned a marble female nude sculpture in our sculpture garden. I carved the piece, titled “Enya,” in 1988 for the opening of one of my exhibitions. “Enya” is carved from calacatta marble, which is quarried at Carrara, Italy, but she began to deteriorate while outdoors in the sculpture garden and became unsalable. We decided to keep her for our own and have enjoyed having her, but the time came for her to be deaccessioned.

This is a term meaning the removal or disposal of an artwork and the following video shows how we deaccessioned “Enya.”
