This flouncy female torso is carved from sunlight marble, a variety from southern British Columbia and mounted on a black granite base. All surfaces of this sculpture have been polished to a high sheen to accentuate the colours of each stone.
This is another in a continuing series of torso sculptures wherein I can celebrate the form of the female nude, yet the details of the figure are softened. The figure looks as though it is wearing a tight fitting gown, as the legs blend into curving forms that resemble a flowing skirt hemline. The breasts, hips waist and buttocks are evident, but the small details of anatomy are smoothed over.
The figure appears to be moving forward and the sculpture can turn freely on the stainless steel mounting pin.
