Imperial Metals Corp. Presents Binkley Sculptures at Treaty Signing
I was commissioned by Imperial Metals Corporation to create three presentation gift sculptures for their subsidiary company, Red Chris Development Company Ltd. On July 27, 2015 an Impact, Benefit & Co-Management Agreement between the Tahltan Nation and Red Chris was signed. Leaders of the Tahltan Central Government were presented an original Binkley stone sculpture to mark the occasion. Pictured are Tahltan President Chad Day (left) receiving his gift from Imperial Metals President Brian Kynoch (right).
I carved three different abstract bird sculptures from rainforest marble, a variety of stone that I quarried on the mountains of the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, near Tofino. I mounted each on a black granite base that was etched with a salutation to the recipient. I also included a personal letter to each recipient printed on my letterhead.
Each of the sculptures’ flowing lines and smooth surfaces are representative of the freedom of all birds of flight. The material and the image symbolize strength and openness, traits so important in the Agreement.
I was honoured to be part of this corporate project and welcome the opportunity to create a special presentation gift for you. If you have an occasion that requires a unique gift, please contact me and we can discuss the possibilities.
