Singapore Hotel Commission Update

The next stage of my commission for 16 sculptures for a major hotel in Singapore is upon me. The hotel wants a particular type of marble for two of the sculptures, so I’ve purchased a large block of Nero Marquina marble which is quarried in Spain. Since Carrara, Italy is a major international stone export hub, the block of stone was shipped from Spain to Carrara, where my US supplier bought the block. It subsequently went to his facility in Kansas, via Philadelphia, USA, then on to my studio.

The block of stone has ample dimensions both in width and depth, however the block was 56″ long and I need 2 pieces that are 30″ long. This is how I split the block in half to resolve the issue:

I’ll post more photos as I progress on these two sculptures.
