Start with Art Opening

The Start with Art opening was a great evening. This annual exhibition is presented by the Seymour Art Gallery in Deep Cove, BC, Canada.

Emerging and established artists are invited to exhibit a piece of their work, but it must retail for $150.00 or less. The exhibition is designed for patrons under-sixteen years of age, and the artwork is displayed low for the younger eyes to appreciate.

The above is a shot at the opening. When I snapped this, there were several children in the gallery, but you only see their parents. That is because every community art gallery must offer a interactive component at each exhibition and this year, Sarah Cavanagh, Director of the SAG and her staff decided to offer a private place for children to explore and create their own artworks. Behind the wall that has the exhibition title on it is a small room, with a very small entrance at the back of the gallery to the centre right. The entrance was inviting to smaller visitors, but not so much for adults – sort of like an Alice in Wonderland theme. What you cannot see is about a dozen excited and very creative children who are drawing like mad on the walls of their special art room.

Each year, I donate outright a small bird sculpture to the event, so the proceeds of the sale of the sculpture all goes to the SAG. You can see my little cross-wing dove sculpture on the pedestal at the left of the photo. Happily, it as found a home with a new young patron.

We look forward to seeing everyone next year.
