Vancouver Spring 2015 Carving Course A Success
My friends, George Pratt and Andrew Pothier and I presented “Vancouver Spring” again and our intensive stone carving instruction course was another success. We held the event on the premises of Pothier Enterprises Ltd., in Delta, BC, Canada from May 4 – 8, 2015.
We had 10 participants this year, ranging from carvers with some experience, to four who had never tried sculpting stone before. All of the participants thoroughly enjoyed the five days of instruction and complimented us on the great value we presented.
Workshops included carving on a stationary bench grinder, the use of hand and pneumatic hammer and chisels, diamond abrasive angle grinders and polishers, drilling stone and marketing tips for selling finished sculptures. Participants carved limestone, marble, granite and nephrite jade.
The event is held outdoors and the weather this year was warm and sunny, save for one day of clouds and cool wind. But despite a few shivers, everyone had a good time making dust and even finishing a few sculptures!
