Visit to LEGO Exhibition

Michelle and I visited the Telus World of Science to see the “LEGO – Adventure Travel” exhibition. As I mentioned earlier, LEGO blocks have been a favourite toy of mine since childhood, so I had a great time viewing the various vignettes.

Although I expected larger constructions, I was pleased with the diversity, detail and crammed creativity that was on display. As the theme was travel, the accent was on the many vehicles we humans use to move about – some recognizable, some pure fantasy yet to be built.

I was struck by the variety of colours that LEGO now produces its blocks in, as well as the many new shapes of blocks that they make. The colour range covers almost every hue of a rainbow, and some of the block colours look like candy good enough to eat. There is now a semi-translucent burgundy that I found very striking. LEGO has grown its repertoire of block shapes vastly since I was a child, giving one even more flexibility in sculptural creation.

I can’t wait until my next visit to the local LEGO store, so I can add to my own block collection.
