This very abstract form has just enough nuances in shape to be an animal sculpture of a rabbit.
I’ve taken the elements of a soft, cuddly bunny that are most common in one’s mind – the fat body, cotton tail, long floppy ears and twitching nose and defined these with subtle edges and planes. One has to look closely at this small scale sculpture to realize the rabbit.
I’ve carved the sculpture from a variety of marble from the Carrara area of Italy, called cipollino. The name means onion is Italian and pertains to the yellow white background with striations of grey/green that together resemble a layered onion.
